Philip Pullman, Author of the Year 2018, visits Stockton-On-Tees and is hosted by Drake the Bookshop as part of Independent Bookshop Week and we have been assured by all concerned that it was a fantastic evening!
Philip joined us for a cruise down the River Tees upon 'La Belle Sauvage' (Teesside Princess) and gave a wonderfully informative talk and Q&A session on board before disembarking at Preston Park to enjoy a the fantastic surroundings of the museum and Victorian Street, where Philip learned about John Walker inventor of the friction match ( a tenuous link to The Firework Maker's Daughter).
A huge thank you to everyone involved - and especially to Preston Park Museum and Grounds for putting on a great venue for the signing. Thanks to all of the staff and volunteers
The Teesside Princess for allowing us to change its name and for a ...seamless crossing (well we didn't technically cross the Tees)
Amy Lou Designs for some awesome t-shirts and the banners that La Belle Sauvage was on
Penguin Books for deciding that our pitch wasn't bonkers and was worth pursuing, we hope we did it proud!
To all of you for making the event on paper a reality and one that Stockton can be proud of for years to come.
And finally to the two stars of the show. Jude Pullman for allowing us to borrow her husband for the evening and for keeping me posted on the cricket (we did quite well)...
and of course the star of the show Mr Philip Pullman for putting a huge smile on 170 people's faces and for signing books galore and being willing to pose for pictures. We really appreciate it and quite frankly can't believe it
